Rating (out of 5): 2

Ashoka (Saraca asoca) is a well-known herb in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, particularly valued for its benefits in female reproductive health. Its use in treating or supporting infertility is primarily based on traditional Ayurvedic texts and practices. Ashoka is considered a uterine tonic and is commonly prescribed for gynecological disorders such as menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, and irregular menstruation, which are sometimes linked to infertility. The bark and extracts are said to help maintain the health of the endometrium and regulate menstrual cycles, which are important factors in female fertility.

However, the scientific evidence supporting Ashoka’s efficacy specifically for infertility is limited. While a few preclinical studies suggest that Ashoka may possess estrogenic activity and can modulate menstrual function, robust clinical trials in humans addressing infertility outcomes are lacking. Most modern references cite its traditional use rather than providing direct clinical validation. Therefore, while Ashoka is widely used in traditional systems for reproductive health and indirectly for infertility, the strength of evidence for its direct effectiveness in treating infertility remains low, and its use is supported far more by historical precedent than by strong scientific validation.
