Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Eurycomanone is a major bioactive compound found in Eurycoma longifolia (Tongkat Ali), a traditional medicinal plant commonly used in Southeast Asia. There is scientific evidence, primarily from animal studies and limited human trials, suggesting that Eurycomanone may support male fertility. Research indicates that Eurycomanone can enhance spermatogenesis (the production of sperm), elevate testosterone levels, and improve sperm quality in animal models. Some clinical studies in men with infertility have reported improvements in sperm concentration, motility, and overall semen quality following supplementation with Tongkat Ali extracts standardized for Eurycomanone content. The proposed mechanisms include stimulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and inhibition of aromatase, leading to increased testosterone and reduced estrogen levels. However, the overall evidence base is still developing; most studies are small-scale, of short duration, or lack rigorous controls. There are few large, high-quality randomized controlled trials directly investigating Eurycomanone's effects on human infertility. Thus, while scientific evidence exists and is promising, it remains preliminary, and more robust clinical research is needed to confirm efficacy and safety for this specific indication.
