Saccharomyces cerevisiae peptides have been studied in the context of inflammatory bowel disorders (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The scientific rationale for their use primarily stems from the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of peptides derived from this yeast. Several in vitro and animal studies suggest that S. cerevisiae peptides can influence gut barrier function and modulate immune responses. For example, some research indicates that these peptides may reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines or enhance the integrity of the intestinal mucosa, which could theoretically benefit IBD patients.

However, the evidence in humans is limited. Most clinical studies focus on S. cerevisiae as a probiotic yeast (especially the strain S. boulardii) rather than on isolated peptides. While some clinical trials have reported modest improvements in symptoms or relapse rates in IBD patients using S. cerevisiae-based supplements, these results cannot be directly attributed to yeast peptides alone.
