Evidence supporting the use of: Albizia
For the health condition: Injuries
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Albizia, particularly species such as Albizia lebbeck and Albizia julibrissin, has been used in traditional medicine systems (notably Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine) to support the healing of injuries, wounds, and trauma. In Ayurveda, Albizia bark and leaves are applied topically or taken internally to reduce swelling, speed recovery, and soothe inflamed tissues. Similarly, in Chinese herbal practice, the flowers and bark of Albizia julibrissin are used to treat trauma, swelling, and bruising, often as part of multi-herb formulations.
The evidence supporting these uses primarily comes from ethnobotanical records and historical texts rather than modern clinical studies. While some preliminary laboratory studies have shown that Albizia extracts may possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties—factors that could theoretically aid in injury recovery—there is a lack of substantial clinical trials or robust pharmacological data directly linking Albizia to improved healing of physical injuries in humans. Thus, while its use for injuries is well documented in traditional medicine, scientific validation remains limited.
