For the health condition: Injuries
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Arani (Premna integrifolia) is a plant widely used in Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine in India. Its use for treating injuries—such as wounds, sprains, and bruises—is primarily rooted in traditional practice rather than modern scientific validation. In Ayurvedic texts, Arani is often included in formulations prescribed for reducing inflammation, promoting wound healing, and supporting recovery from trauma. Preparations may include paste of leaves applied topically or decoctions administered orally to enhance the healing process. The rationale in these traditions is based on its reputed anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antimicrobial properties. However, while there are some preliminary laboratory studies suggesting that Premna integrifolia extracts may possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, strong clinical evidence in humans is lacking. Most modern research is either in vitro or conducted on animals, and robust, well-designed human trials to substantiate its efficacy for injury recovery are still absent. Therefore, the use of Arani for injuries remains primarily justified by historical and traditional use, and not by high-quality scientific evidence at this time.
