Collagen is the primary structural protein in connective tissues such as skin, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. When injury occurs, especially to these tissues, the body’s demand for collagen increases as it repairs and regenerates damaged structures. Supplementation with bovine collagen, which is derived from the hides, bones, or cartilage of cows, provides a source of hydrolyzed collagen peptides that are more easily absorbed and utilized by the human body.

Several studies have investigated the effect of collagen supplementation on injury recovery, particularly in athletes or individuals with joint injuries. Some randomized controlled trials have shown that oral collagen peptides can improve joint pain, increase collagen synthesis, and potentially accelerate recovery from soft tissue injuries. For example, a 2019 randomized controlled trial published in Current Medical Research and Opinion found that collagen peptide supplementation improved activity-related joint pain in athletes.
