Dragon’s Blood is a red resin obtained from several plant species, including Daemonorops draco and Croton lechleri. Its use for treating injuries such as wounds, cuts, and burns is primarily rooted in traditional medicine systems, especially in South America, Asia, and the Middle East. For centuries, healers have applied the resin topically to promote wound healing, stop bleeding, and reduce inflammation. Historical records and ethnobotanical surveys document its use as a folk remedy for injuries, with some suggesting that its astringent and antimicrobial properties help protect wounds and accelerate healing.
Modern scientific research on Dragon’s Blood’s efficacy for injury treatment is limited but somewhat supportive. Laboratory studies have identified compounds such as proanthocyanidins and taspine, which may have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing effects. In vitro and animal models have demonstrated improved wound contraction and collagen formation when treated with extracts of Dragon’s Blood.
