It was commonly applied topically or taken internally to help treat wounds, burns, and other injuries. Historical records indicate that Echinacea species, particularly Echinacea angustifolia, were used to support the healing of cuts, sores, and even snake bites. The rationale for its use was largely based on observed antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as its purported ability to stimulate the immune system. Modern scientific research has focused primarily on Echinacea’s potential for preventing or treating the common cold and other respiratory infections, with less emphasis on its effects in wound healing or injury. Some laboratory studies have shown that Echinacea extracts can enhance certain aspects of immune function and may possess mild anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
