Euphorbia pekinensis has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is known as "Jing Da Ji" (京大戟). Traditionally, it is used for its strong purgative effects and to treat conditions such as edema, ascites, and certain types of toxin-induced swellings. It has also been applied externally in folk medicine for injuries, including bruises, swelling, and pain, although this use is less common compared to its internal applications for fluid retention and constipation. The external use is mainly based on the plant's purported ability to "reduce swelling" and "resolve blood stasis," which are common TCM concepts relating to injury healing.

However, scientific evidence supporting its efficacy for injury treatment is limited. Most modern pharmacological research on Euphorbia pekinensis focuses on its anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, and purgative properties, with very few studies directly examining its effects on wound healing or trauma. Some constituents, such as diterpenoids, have shown anti-inflammatory activity in laboratory settings, which could theoretically contribute to injury recovery, but clinical data are lacking. Thus, while the use of Euphorbia pekinensis for injuries is grounded in tradition, the scientific validation for this specific indication remains minimal.
