The rationale stems from its metabolic roles: ornithine is involved in the urea cycle, helping to detoxify ammonia, while alpha-ketoglutarate is part of the Krebs cycle and serves as a precursor for amino acid synthesis. OKG supplementation is thought to enhance protein synthesis, reduce muscle breakdown (catabolism), and potentially promote wound healing by providing substrates for tissue repair.
