Asparagus racemosus, commonly known as Shatavari, is primarily used in Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine as a general tonic, adaptogen, and remedy for various conditions, including female reproductive health, digestive issues, and stress. Its use for supporting or treating insomnia is based mostly on traditional practices rather than robust scientific validation. In Ayurvedic texts, Shatavari is described as having "cooling" and "nourishing" properties, and is sometimes included in herbal formulations intended to calm the mind and promote restful sleep. However, there is scant direct scientific evidence investigating Asparagus racemosus specifically for insomnia or sleep disorders. While a few animal studies suggest it may possess mild anxiolytic or adaptogenic effects, these do not directly establish efficacy for insomnia in humans. No high-quality clinical trials have evaluated its use for this indication. Thus, its use for insomnia is justified mainly by tradition, and the scientific evidence supporting this use is very limited.
