It is traditionally believed to support joint health, strengthen bones, and promote vitality. In TCM, antler velvet is thought to "nourish yin and yang" and is used for conditions characterized by weakness, including joint pain, reduced mobility, and musculoskeletal deficiencies. The rationale for its use is mainly based on empirical tradition and the concept of "like treats like"—since antlers are associated with strength and regeneration, consuming them is thought to confer similar benefits to the consumer. Scientific research on antler horn's efficacy for joint health is limited and largely preliminary. Some laboratory and animal studies suggest that antler velvet contains compounds such as collagen, glycosaminoglycans, and growth factors, which are theoretically beneficial for joint cartilage and connective tissue.
