Asshide Glue, also known as Ejiao (阿胶), is a traditional Chinese medicine made from donkey-hide gelatin. Historically, it has been used for centuries in China for various purposes, particularly to "nourish the blood," improve general vitality, and support connective tissues. Its use for supporting the joints and musculoskeletal system is based on traditional beliefs that gelatin provides nutrients that help maintain joint health and elasticity. However, while Ejiao is rich in collagen—a major component of connective tissue—there is limited scientific evidence directly linking its consumption with improved joint health in humans. Most of the support comes from anecdotal reports and traditional Chinese medical texts, not from rigorous clinical trials. Some laboratory studies suggest that gelatin or collagen supplements may have a positive effect on cartilage and joint function, but these studies generally do not focus specifically on Asshide Glue and are not sufficient to confirm its efficacy for joint support. Therefore, its use for the joints is primarily justified by tradition rather than robust scientific validation, and the overall evidence supporting its effectiveness for this body system is limited.
