Traditional healers have employed this plant for various inflammatory conditions, including those affecting the joints such as arthritis and rheumatism. The use is primarily based on its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties as recognized in folk medicine. Some studies have identified flavonoids, polyacetylenes, and other phytochemicals in Bidens pilosa, which are believed to contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects. However, robust scientific clinical trials specifically addressing joint health or arthritis in humans are lacking. Most of the data come from in vitro or animal studies suggesting potential mechanisms—such as inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines and reduction of oxidative stress.
