Curcuma amada, commonly known as mango ginger, has been used traditionally in Ayurveda and other systems of traditional medicine in South Asia for various purposes, including as a remedy for joint discomfort and inflammation. The rhizome is valued for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, which have led to its use in managing symptoms associated with joint-related conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism. Folk medicine practices include topical applications of pastes and oral consumption to alleviate pain and swelling in the joints.

While there are some in vitro and animal studies indicating that extracts of Curcuma amada demonstrate anti-inflammatory activity (for example, by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators or reducing edema in animal models), high-quality clinical research in humans is lacking. The evidence supporting its effectiveness for joint health is therefore rooted primarily in traditional use rather than robust scientific validation. Its use for joints is less well-documented and less researched compared to its close relative, Curcuma longa (turmeric). Thus, while tradition supports its use for joint health, scientific evidence is limited and not sufficient to draw firm conclusions.
