Yucca (Yucca schidigera) has a long history of traditional use, particularly among Native American peoples of the southwestern United States and Mexico, for supporting joint health and alleviating symptoms associated with arthritis. The roots and extracts were commonly used as teas or poultices to reduce inflammation and discomfort. The rationale behind its use is primarily attributed to its saponin and polyphenol content, compounds believed to possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

While there is a moderate body of animal and in vitro research suggesting that yucca extracts may inhibit inflammatory pathways and reduce oxidative stress, direct human clinical evidence is limited. The few preliminary studies in animals have shown reduced markers of inflammation and improved symptoms in models of arthritis, but these results have not been robustly replicated in large-scale human trials.
