Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Amor seco is a common name applied to several species in the Desmodium genus (such as Desmodium adscendens, Desmodium incanum, and others) and is used in traditional medicine systems in Latin America, especially in folk remedies. In some ethnobotanical records, Amor seco has been used as a diuretic and for the general support of urinary tract health, which may include kidney-related conditions. However, there is no substantial scientific research or clinical trials specifically validating its use for the treatment or support of kidney infections (pyelonephritis). The evidence supporting its use is primarily based on traditional applications, anecdotal reports, and limited ethnobotanical surveys. No peer-reviewed studies have directly demonstrated its efficacy or safety for kidney infection in humans. Therefore, its use for this purpose should be regarded with caution, and it should not replace standard medical treatment for kidney infections, which can be serious and require antibiotics. The traditional use and limited supporting evidence warrant a low rating for evidence.
