Evidence supporting the use of: Lysimachia
For the health condition: Kidney Infection
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Lysimachia, particularly Lysimachia christinae (also known as "Jin Qian Cao" in Traditional Chinese Medicine), has been used for centuries in East Asian herbal practices to support the urinary system, including the treatment of kidney infections and urinary tract stones. Its traditional applications are documented in various Chinese medical texts, where it is described as possessing diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and stone-dissolving properties. The herb is commonly included in formulas aimed at clearing heat and dampness from the urinary tract, which, according to TCM theory, correspond to symptoms such as painful urination, urinary tract infection, and kidney stones.
Although there are a limited number of laboratory and animal studies suggesting that Lysimachia extracts may have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and diuretic actions, these findings are preliminary and have not been validated in large-scale, high-quality clinical trials for the treatment of kidney infections in humans. The available scientific literature does not provide robust evidence to support its efficacy or safety for this specific indication. Therefore, while the use of Lysimachia for kidney infections is primarily justified by traditional and historical practice, the strength of supporting evidence from modern scientific research remains weak (rated 2 out of 5).
