For the health condition: Kidney Infection
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Rosa laevigata (commonly known as Cherokee rose or Chinese rose) is a plant whose fruit, root, and sometimes flower have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Within TCM, Rosa laevigata is often cited for its astringent properties and is traditionally prescribed for urinary tract-related issues, including frequent urination, enuresis, and sometimes for conditions interpreted as "kidney deficiency" or "kidney weakness." These uses are based on the ancient TCM concepts of organ systems and do not directly correlate with the biomedical diagnosis of kidney infection (pyelonephritis).
There is limited scientific literature directly investigating Rosa laevigata for the treatment of kidney infections. Some laboratory studies indicate that extracts from the fruit may have mild antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects, but these studies are not specific to kidney infection pathogens, nor have they been confirmed in human clinical trials. The traditional use remains the primary basis for employing Rosa laevigata in this context. Thus, while widely used in herbal formulas for urinary and kidney health in TCM, there is insufficient modern scientific evidence to conclusively support its efficacy for treating kidney infections as defined in Western medicine.
