Evidence supporting the use of: Three-Leaf-Caper
For the health condition: Kidney Infection
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Three-Leaf-Caper (Crateva nurvala) has a long history of use in traditional systems of medicine, particularly Ayurveda, for supporting kidney health and treating urinary tract disorders, including kidney infections (pyelonephritis). In Ayurvedic texts, the bark of Crateva nurvala is described as a diuretic and is believed to help "flush out" toxins from the urinary system, which may indirectly benefit those with kidney infections.
However, scientific validation for its efficacy specifically in treating kidney infections is minimal. A limited number of animal studies and in vitro experiments have suggested that extracts of Three-Leaf-Caper may have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and mild antimicrobial effects. Some research has also explored its role in preventing or reducing kidney stone formation and supporting overall renal function, but direct clinical evidence for its effectiveness in treating active kidney infections in humans is lacking. No large, rigorous clinical trials have been conducted to specifically assess its impact on pyelonephritis or acute kidney infections. Thus, its current use for this purpose is primarily rooted in traditional practice, with only preliminary scientific support for related urinary and renal benefits.
