Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been used in traditional and folk medicine for various health concerns, including kidney stones. Anecdotal reports and traditional practices often claim that ACV can help dissolve or prevent the formation of kidney stones, typically attributing these effects to its acetic acid content, which is believed to help alkalize urine and potentially aid in stone dissolution or prevention. However, scientific validation for these claims is extremely limited. Currently, there are no robust clinical trials or high-quality human studies directly supporting the use of ACV for preventing or treating kidney stones. Most evidence remains anecdotal or is based on animal studies, which are not directly translatable to human health outcomes. Furthermore, excessive ACV consumption may have risks, such as lowering potassium levels or irritating the digestive tract. Therefore, while ACV is promoted in traditional remedies, its efficacy for kidney stones is not scientifically substantiated, and evidence supporting its use is minimal.
