Evidence supporting the use of: Fenuside
For the health condition: Kidney Stones
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Fenuside is a proprietary extract derived from the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum, commonly known as fenugreek. In traditional medicine systems, especially in Ayurveda and Unani, fenugreek seeds have been used for a wide range of health conditions, including digestive issues, diabetes, and kidney health. The use of fenugreek for kidney stones is primarily based on its traditional applications rather than robust scientific validation. Some traditional texts and anecdotal reports suggest that fenugreek may help in reducing the risk of kidney stone formation, potentially due to its supposed diuretic properties and its ability to alter urinary composition. However, scientific studies specifically evaluating fenugreek or its proprietary extracts like Fenuside for the prevention or treatment of kidney stones are limited and mostly preclinical. A few animal studies indicate a possible reduction in calcium oxalate crystal deposition in kidneys after administration of fenugreek extracts, but human clinical trials are lacking. Therefore, while its use is supported by traditional practice, the evidence base is weak and not conclusive.
