Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Pumpkinseed oil has been used in traditional herbal medicine, particularly in parts of Europe and Asia, as a remedy for urinary tract health, including support for kidney and bladder function. The use of pumpkin seeds and their oil is often based on folk practices rather than robust scientific evidence. Historically, pumpkin seeds were thought to have diuretic properties and were used to promote urination and potentially help "flush out" kidney stones or prevent their formation. However, there is very limited clinical research directly investigating the effectiveness of pumpkinseed oil for the treatment or prevention of kidney stones.

Some laboratory and animal studies have suggested that certain components in pumpkin seeds, such as phytosterols and antioxidants, may have a mild anti-inflammatory or protective effect on the urinary tract. However, these findings do not specifically translate into a proven benefit for kidney stone prevention or treatment in humans. No large-scale, high-quality clinical trials exist to support the use of pumpkinseed oil for this purpose. Overall, its use for kidney stones remains rooted in tradition, with minimal scientific support.
