Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei) is a plant native to Japan, traditionally used in various Asian folk medicines. Its historical applications are most commonly linked to general health, longevity, and digestive ailments, rather than specifically to kidney health. However, in some branches of traditional Japanese and Chinese medicine, ashitaba has occasionally been included in formulas thought to support the kidney system, largely due to the doctrine of signatures and its purported ability to promote healthy aging and detoxification—concepts loosely associated with kidney function in traditional frameworks.

From a scientific perspective, evidence directly supporting ashitaba for kidney health is sparse. Most modern research has focused on its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential anti-diabetic properties, based on compounds such as chalcones found in the plant.
