Bacillus pumilus is a spore-forming probiotic bacterium that has been investigated for its potential to support gut health, including the large intestine (colon). There is a small but growing body of scientific research examining the use of Bacillus pumilus as a probiotic. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest that it has the ability to survive gastric transit, colonize the gut, and produce antimicrobial compounds that may inhibit pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella.
