Vine tea, also known as Ampelopsis grossedentata, is a traditional Chinese herbal tea that contains high levels of dihydromyricetin (DHM), a flavonoid compound. In recent years, preclinical scientific studies have investigated the effects of DHM and vine tea extracts on liver health, particularly regarding detoxification and protection against liver injury. Several animal studies have demonstrated that DHM exhibits hepatoprotective properties, potentially by enhancing antioxidant enzyme activity, reducing oxidative stress, and modulating inflammatory responses in the liver. These mechanisms may contribute to improved detoxification processes. For example, some research has shown that DHM can protect against chemically-induced liver injury in rodents, likely by suppressing lipid peroxidation and supporting glutathione levels.

However, it is important to note that most of the available evidence comes from in vitro experiments or animal models. Human clinical trials directly assessing vine tea or DHM for liver detoxification or overall liver health are extremely limited or lacking. While traditional Chinese medicine does use vine tea for various purposes, its use specifically for liver detoxification is more recent and largely based on emerging laboratory research.

In summary, there is some scientific basis for the use of vine tea in supporting liver detoxification, but the current evidence is preliminary and primarily preclinical. Well-designed human studies are needed to confirm these effects and to establish appropriate dosages and safety.
