Orange, particularly sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), has been used in traditional medicine systems, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), to support respiratory health and the Lungs body system. In TCM, citrus peels—commonly referred to as Chen Pi (aged tangerine peel, but related species are sometimes used)—are thought to help regulate qi, transform phlegm, and support lung function. The pleasant aroma and essential oils from oranges have also been used in folk remedies to ease mild respiratory discomfort, such as cough or congestion. However, these uses are largely based on traditional practices rather than robust scientific evidence.
From a scientific standpoint, oranges are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which are important for immune function.
