Puerarin is an isoflavone compound derived from the root of Pueraria lobata (Kudzu). In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Kudzu root, known as "Ge Gen," has been used for centuries to support various body systems, including the respiratory (Lung) system. Historically, it is included in herbal formulations that address symptoms such as fever, headache, and upper respiratory issues, particularly those associated with colds and flu. Kudzu root is believed in TCM theory to release the exterior and alleviate muscle stiffness, which sometimes relates to early stages of respiratory infections.

Scientific studies on Puerarin have primarily focused on its cardiovascular, neuroprotective, and anti-inflammatory effects, with some evidence for its antioxidant properties. However, direct scientific evidence supporting the use of Puerarin specifically for lung health or respiratory disorders is limited. A small number of preclinical studies suggest anti-inflammatory effects that could, in theory, influence respiratory health, but there are no robust clinical trials or well-established mechanisms confirming its efficacy for the lung system in humans.
