Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a well-known herb in Ayurvedic medicine, traditionally used to support general health, vitality, and resilience to stress. Its use in the context of Lyme Disease, however, is not rooted in scientific studies or clinical trials specifically targeting the infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. Instead, ashwagandha’s application is based largely on its adaptogenic properties and its traditional role in supporting the immune system, reducing fatigue, and mitigating stress—all symptoms that may be present in patients suffering from chronic Lyme Disease or post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS). While ashwagandha has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects in preclinical models, there is no direct evidence from human or animal studies to show that it treats or cures Lyme Disease itself.
