Evidence supporting the use of: Poria Mushrooms
For the health condition: Lymph Nodes or Glands (swollen)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Poria mushroom (Poria cocos, also known as Fu Ling in Traditional Chinese Medicine) is primarily used in traditional Eastern medicine systems rather than supported by strong scientific evidence. In TCM, Poria is believed to promote urination, strengthen the spleen, and calm the mind. It is often included in herbal formulas intended to address symptoms associated with "dampness" in the body, which may sometimes include swelling or edema related to lymphatic stagnation. Swollen lymph nodes or glands are sometimes interpreted in traditional frameworks as a manifestation of dampness or phlegm.
However, there is scant scientific research directly linking Poria mushroom to the reduction of swollen lymph nodes or the treatment of lymphatic or glandular disorders. Most modern studies on Poria focus on its diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties, but these studies are preliminary and do not specifically address lymph node swelling. As such, while the use of Poria for this purpose is justified by tradition, its efficacy for treating swollen lymph nodes or glands is not well validated by modern science. The evidence supporting its specific use for lymphatic or glandular swelling is thus rated low.
