Alkylglycerols (AKGs) are ether lipids naturally found in high concentrations in shark liver oil, human bone marrow, spleen, and breast milk. Their use to support the lymphatic system is primarily based on their biological roles in immunity and hematopoiesis. Several animal studies and limited human research suggest that AKGs may stimulate the production and function of white blood cells, particularly granulocytes and macrophages, which are important in the lymphatic and immune systems. AKGs are believed to enhance immune responses, increase antibody production, and possibly help in resisting infections. Some small clinical trials and observational studies, particularly in cancer patients undergoing radiation or chemotherapy, have reported benefits in white blood cell recovery and infection reduction. However, the evidence for direct action on the lymphatic system itself remains limited, as most studies focus on general immune modulation rather than specific lymphatic processes such as lymph flow or lymph node function. Most clinical evidence is preliminary, with small sample sizes and short durations, so larger and more rigorous studies are needed. In summary, there is some scientific basis for AKGs supporting immune elements related to the lymphatic system, but the overall strength of evidence and direct relevance to lymphatic health is modest.
