Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, particularly for supporting respiratory health, but its application for the lymphatic system is less well-documented. Traditional Western herbalists sometimes use mullein as a lymphatic tonic, suggesting it may help with lymphatic congestion or swollen lymph nodes, often in combination with other herbs. This use is based largely on empirical, anecdotal evidence rather than formal clinical research or an established traditional doctrine. Most historical texts and ethnobotanical accounts highlight mullein’s expectorant and soothing properties for the lungs and throat, not specifically for lymphatic support. Contemporary herbal literature occasionally mentions mullein in formulations aimed at supporting lymphatic drainage, but this is not a dominant or widely recognized use in historical materia medica. There is currently a lack of scientific studies examining mullein’s effects on the lymphatic system in humans or animals. Therefore, the justification for using mullein for lymphatic support is based primarily on tradition, with limited supporting evidence and no direct clinical research.
