Evidence supporting the use of: Noni
For the body system: Lymphatics
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Noni (Morinda citrifolia) is a tropical fruit traditionally used in Polynesian, Southeast Asian, and Indian medicine. Its historical uses have spanned a wide range of ailments, including as a general tonic and for infections, inflammation, and skin conditions. In traditional medicine, noni has sometimes been recommended to "cleanse the blood" or "support the body’s natural purification processes," which could be interpreted as supporting the lymphatic system. However, these uses are rooted in folk beliefs rather than in an understanding of the lymphatic system as described by modern physiology.
There is little to no direct scientific evidence supporting noni's specific effects on the lymphatic system. Most contemporary research on noni has focused on its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential immune-modulating properties. While these general effects could theoretically have a secondary impact on lymphatic health, no clinical trials or robust studies have shown that noni directly supports or enhances the lymphatic system in humans. Therefore, its use for lymphatic support is justified mainly by traditional practices and beliefs, rather than scientific validation.
