Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Sulfated polysaccharides, particularly those derived from seaweeds (such as fucoidan, carrageenan, and ulvan), have been the subject of scientific study due to their diverse biological activities. Some preclinical research indicates that these compounds can modulate immune function, including effects on lymphocyte proliferation and activation, which are relevant to the lymphatic system. Additionally, certain sulfated polysaccharides have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-metastatic properties in animal models, which may indirectly support lymphatic health by reducing tissue inflammation and lymphatic congestion.

However, direct evidence specifically linking sulfated polysaccharides to improved lymphatic system function in humans is limited. Most studies are either in vitro (cell culture) or in vivo (animal) models, with few clinical trials directly addressing lymphatic outcomes. While the immunomodulatory effects suggest a potential role in supporting the lymphatic system, the evidence is preliminary and not yet robust. Therefore, while there is a scientific rationale and some supporting data, the overall quality and quantity of evidence are moderate at best, justifying a rating of 2 out of 5.
