Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Angelica (notably Angelica sinensis, also known as Dong Quai) has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, primarily for supporting female reproductive health. However, in some traditional systems, Angelica has also been used as a general tonic for both men and women, with occasional references to supporting male reproductive health, such as improving circulation and vitality. Despite these traditional uses, there is little to no robust scientific evidence specifically validating Angelica's efficacy for direct support of the male reproductive system, such as improving sperm quality, testosterone levels, or treating male-specific reproductive disorders. The majority of scientific research on Angelica focuses on its potential effects on women's health, particularly regarding menstrual regulation and menopausal symptoms. Therefore, while there is some traditional precedent for its use as a general tonic that might indirectly influence male reproductive health, the evidence is weak and not well-supported by modern research. Its use for this body system should be considered primarily traditional, with a low level of supporting evidence.
