Rating (out of 5): 2

Black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora) has a long history of use in traditional Thai and Southeast Asian medicine, particularly as a tonic to enhance vitality and male sexual function. More recently, scientific studies have begun to investigate its effects on the male reproductive system. Several animal studies and a limited number of human trials suggest that black ginger extract may improve erectile function, increase sperm quality, and boost testosterone levels. The proposed mechanisms include enhanced nitric oxide production, improved blood flow, and antioxidant properties that protect testicular tissue. For example, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in 2012 found that supplementation with black ginger extract improved erectile response in healthy men. However, these studies are relatively few, often involve small sample sizes, and are sometimes funded by supplement manufacturers, which may introduce bias. Overall, while there is some scientific validation of black ginger's supportive effects on the male reproductive system, particularly regarding sexual function and vitality, the quality and quantity of evidence is still moderate, and more well-powered, independent clinical trials are needed to confirm efficacy and safety.
