Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Cyanotis arachnoides is primarily used in traditional systems of medicine, particularly in Chinese and Indian herbal practices. It is known as a source of ecdysteroids, including ecdysterone (20-hydroxyecdysone), which have been associated with various health effects. In traditional contexts, extracts from Cyanotis arachnoides have been used to "tonify" the male reproductive system, support sexual vitality, and improve physical strength. However, the bulk of the evidence for these uses comes from traditional herbal texts and ethnobotanical reports rather than rigorous modern scientific studies.

There are limited laboratory studies suggesting that ecdysteroids might have anabolic or adaptogenic effects, but direct evidence supporting their impact specifically on the male reproductive system (such as increasing testosterone, improving fertility, or enhancing libido) is sparse or lacking. Most of the purported benefits are extrapolated from animal studies or from the biological activity of ecdysteroids in other organisms. As of now, there are few, if any, high-quality clinical trials in humans that validate the traditional claims regarding male reproductive health. Therefore, while traditional use is well established, scientific validation remains weak, resulting in a moderate evidence rating.
