Eurycomanone is a major quassinoid compound found in Eurycoma longifolia (commonly known as Tongkat Ali), a medicinal plant traditionally used in Southeast Asia to enhance male reproductive health. Scientific studies have investigated the effects of eurycomanone and Tongkat Ali extracts on the male reproductive system, particularly regarding testosterone levels, spermatogenesis, and libido. Several in vitro and animal studies have shown that eurycomanone stimulates testosterone production by increasing the release of luteinizing hormone and upregulating steroidogenic enzymes in Leydig cells. For example, research published in Phytomedicine and Andrologia has reported improved sperm quality, increased sperm count, and enhanced mating behavior in rodents treated with eurycomanone or Tongkat Ali extracts. Human clinical trials, though generally limited in size and duration, also suggest that supplementation with Tongkat Ali can improve serum testosterone levels and semen parameters in some men with late-onset hypogonadism or infertility. However, most human studies use standardized plant extracts rather than isolated eurycomanone, and the evidence base is not yet robust. Overall, the use of eurycomanone to support the male reproductive system is supported by a combination of preclinical research and preliminary human data, but more large-scale, well-controlled clinical trials are needed to establish efficacy and safety.
