Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Liver, particularly from beef or other animals, is a nutrient-dense food rich in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, B vitamins (including B12 and folate), zinc, selenium, iron, and CoQ10. Several of these nutrients are important for male reproductive health. Zinc, for instance, is well-known for its role in testosterone production and sperm quality. Selenium is also linked to improved sperm motility and overall reproductive function. Vitamin B12 and folate are involved in DNA synthesis and may play a role in sperm health. However, while liver is an excellent source of these nutrients, direct clinical trials specifically investigating the effect of consuming liver on male reproductive outcomes are lacking. The justification for using liver to support the male reproductive system, therefore, is based mainly on the fact that it provides nutrients essential for reproductive function, rather than on direct evidence from studies of liver itself. There are some traditional uses of organ meats for vitality, but the modern rationale is largely nutritional. The evidence rating is modest (2 out of 5) due to the absence of robust clinical trials directly linking liver consumption to improved male reproductive health, though the individual nutrients it contains are scientifically validated for their roles in reproductive physiology.
