Polyphenols are a diverse group of naturally occurring compounds found abundantly in fruits, vegetables, tea, coffee, and wine. Their use in supporting the male reproductive system is increasingly supported by scientific research, although the evidence is not yet definitive. Several studies have indicated that polyphenols such as quercetin, resveratrol, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) possess antioxidant properties that can combat oxidative stress—a known contributor to male infertility and impaired sperm function.

Animal and in vitro studies have demonstrated that polyphenols can improve sperm quality, motility, and viability by reducing oxidative damage to sperm cells. Some human clinical studies also report improvements in semen parameters after supplementation with polyphenol-rich extracts, although sample sizes are often small and methodologies vary. The protective effects are thought to be mediated through the neutralization of reactive oxygen species and modulation of inflammatory pathways in the testes and seminal plasma.

Despite this promising data, there is a need for larger, well-controlled human trials to confirm efficacy, establish optimal dosages, and assess long-term safety. At present, the use of polyphenols to support male reproductive health is considered to have a moderate level of scientific support, mainly based on experimental and preliminary clinical evidence, rather than a long-standing traditional use.
