Shataverins are steroidal saponins found in the roots of Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari), a plant widely used in Ayurvedic medicine. While Shatavari is most commonly recognized for its traditional use in supporting female reproductive health, classical Ayurvedic texts and some ethnomedicinal sources also mention its use in male reproductive health. In these traditions, Shatavari is considered a "rasayana" (rejuvenating) herb, credited with properties that enhance vitality, stamina, and overall reproductive function in both sexes. However, most of the historical and traditional claims regarding its benefits for the male reproductive system are based on its reputed aphrodisiac effects and its use to improve semen quality and libido.

Scientific literature specifically evaluating shataverins or Shatavari root in relation to male reproductive health is limited. A few animal studies suggest potential improvements in sperm count, motility, and testosterone levels, but these findings are preliminary and have not been robustly confirmed in human clinical trials. Most available evidence remains anecdotal or based on traditional use rather than rigorous scientific validation. Thus, the primary justification for using shataverins to support the male reproductive system is rooted in traditional medicine rather than conclusive scientific evidence.
