Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 3

Vitamin E (tocofersolan), a synthetic, water-soluble form of vitamin E, is used to support the male reproductive system due to its antioxidant properties. Scientific research has shown that vitamin E plays a role in protecting cell membranes from oxidative stress, which can damage sperm cells and impair male fertility. Several animal and human studies have investigated the relationship between vitamin E supplementation and male reproductive health. For example, some clinical trials have reported improvements in sperm motility and reductions in sperm DNA fragmentation with vitamin E supplementation, especially in men with infertility linked to oxidative stress. However, results across studies are mixed, with some showing modest benefits and others finding minimal or no effect.

Tocofersolan is mainly used in cases where fat absorption is impaired, as it is more bioavailable in such conditions, but its antioxidant mechanism is the same as other forms of vitamin E. Traditional medicine systems have not specifically used tocofersolan, but vitamin E-rich foods have long been associated with fertility. Current scientific consensus suggests that while antioxidant supplementation, including vitamin E, may help some subgroups of infertile men, it is not universally effective. Thus, the scientific evidence rates as moderate (3/5): there is plausible biological rationale and some supportive studies, but routine use is not yet definitively endorsed by major medical organizations.
