Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Vitamin E, including its gamma form, has traditionally been used as a remedy to alleviate certain symptoms of menopause, particularly hot flashes and vaginal dryness. The rationale for its use is primarily historical, originating from observations and anecdotal reports that suggested benefits for women undergoing menopause. Some small, older clinical studies and case reports have explored the potential of Vitamin E supplementation to relieve vasomotor symptoms, but the overall scientific evidence remains limited and inconclusive. Meta-analyses and systematic reviews generally conclude that the effect of Vitamin E on menopausal symptoms is minimal and not consistently significant compared to placebo. Additionally, most clinical studies have focused on alpha-tocopherol, with very limited research specifically investigating gamma-tocopherol. Major clinical guidelines do not recommend Vitamin E as a standard treatment for menopause symptoms due to insufficient high-quality evidence of efficacy. In summary, while Vitamin E continues to be used based on tradition and anecdotal support, robust scientific validation is lacking.
