Rose (commonly referring to Rosa species, especially Rosa damascena) has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, including Unani, Persian, and certain branches of Ayurveda, for various women's health issues, including menstrual irregularities. Traditionally, rose petals, rose water, or rose oil have been used to "balance" menstruation, relieve menstrual cramps, and manage symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The use is generally based on the belief that rose has mild emmenagogue properties (stimulating menstrual flow) and calming effects on the nervous system.

However, scientific evidence directly supporting rose for menstrual irregularity is minimal. Some modern studies have investigated rose's effects on dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) and PMS, finding some benefit, likely due to its anti-inflammatory and anxiolytic effects. For example, aromatherapy with rose oil has shown mild benefit for menstrual pain and mood symptoms in small clinical trials. However, for the specific issue of regulating menstrual cycles (i.e., addressing irregularity in timing or flow), there is a lack of robust clinical data. Therefore, while rose is traditionally used for menstrual irregularity in some cultures, this practice is not well supported by modern scientific research.
