Capsinoids are non-pungent analogs of capsaicin found in certain chili peppers, notably Capsicum annuum CH-19 Sweet. There is scientific interest in their potential effects on metabolic syndrome, a cluster of conditions including obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. Preclinical studies and several small-scale human clinical trials suggest that capsinoids may promote thermogenesis and increase energy expenditure through activation of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptors. Some studies have reported modest reductions in body fat and improvements in lipid metabolism with capsinoid supplementation.

A few randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in humans have demonstrated that capsinoids can increase resting energy expenditure and fat oxidation, particularly in individuals with higher body mass index (BMI). However, the observed effects are generally modest, and the trials are often limited by small sample sizes and short durations. Meta-analyses conclude that while capsinoids may have a mild beneficial effect on weight management, there is insufficient high-quality evidence to confirm significant improvements in broader metabolic syndrome parameters such as insulin sensitivity or blood pressure.

In summary, the use of capsinoids for metabolic syndrome is supported by preliminary scientific evidence, particularly regarding body weight and fat reduction, but their impact on the full spectrum of metabolic syndrome features remains inconclusive. Larger, longer-term studies are needed to establish definitive benefits.
