Rebaudioside, a steviol glycoside derived from the Stevia rebaudiana plant, is primarily known as a natural, non-caloric sweetener. Its use in supporting or treating Metabolic Syndrome has some scientific basis, though the evidence is limited and not yet robust. Several animal and a few human studies suggest that rebaudioside and related stevia compounds may help improve components of Metabolic Syndrome, such as hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and hypertension. The proposed mechanisms include modulation of glucose metabolism, enhancement of insulin sensitivity, and vasodilation via calcium channel blocking effects. For example, some studies have observed reductions in blood glucose and blood pressure in individuals or animals consuming stevia extracts compared to controls. However, most of these studies are small, of short duration, or use whole stevia extracts rather than isolated rebaudioside. Large-scale, long-term clinical trials are lacking.

Overall, while there is preliminary scientific evidence suggesting potential benefits of rebaudioside for Metabolic Syndrome, especially as a substitute for sugar to reduce caloric intake and glycemic load, the direct therapeutic effects are not yet firmly established. Thus, the evidence supporting its use for this purpose is rated as low to moderate (2/5), pending further research.
