Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 4

Durabolin is the brand name for nandrolone phenylpropionate, an anabolic androgenic steroid. Its use to support or treat lack of muscle tone (muscle wasting or atrophy) is scientifically validated. Nandrolone and its esters have been used clinically since the 1960s for conditions involving muscle loss, such as cachexia associated with chronic illnesses (e.g., HIV/AIDS, cancer), severe burns, and certain anemias. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated their ability to increase lean body mass, improve nitrogen balance, and enhance muscle strength in patients with muscle-wasting disorders.

The mechanism of action involves stimulation of protein synthesis and inhibition of protein breakdown in muscle tissue, leading to increased muscle mass and improved muscle tone. Nandrolone also has a relatively favorable anabolic to androgenic ratio compared to testosterone, which has made it attractive for therapeutic use. However, due to potential side effects—such as virilization, cardiovascular risks, and suppression of endogenous testosterone—its use is now restricted and monitored in most countries.

Overall, while there are risks, the use of Durabolin (nandrolone phenylpropionate) for supporting or treating loss of muscle tone is well-supported by scientific evidence and historical clinical practice, resulting in a high evidence rating.
