Isomaltulose is a naturally occurring disaccharide carbohydrate that is used as a functional carbohydrate in various foods and supplements. Its use in support of the muscles body system is supported by scientific evidence, primarily due to its unique metabolic properties. Isomaltulose is digested more slowly than sucrose, resulting in a lower and more gradual rise in blood glucose and insulin levels. This property is beneficial for muscle metabolism, especially during prolonged physical activity or endurance exercise.

Studies have shown that isomaltulose, when used as a carbohydrate source during exercise, can provide sustained energy release, promote fat oxidation, and spare muscle glycogen compared to more rapidly absorbed sugars. These effects are considered advantageous for athletes and individuals engaging in endurance sports, as they may help delay fatigue and support muscle function over extended periods of activity. For example, a study published in the "European Journal of Nutrition" (2014) found that isomaltulose ingestion led to higher rates of fat oxidation and improved metabolic responses during endurance exercise compared to sucrose.

However, while the evidence is positive, it is not as robust or extensive as that for more established sports carbohydrates (such as glucose and maltodextrin), and most benefits are related to its role as a carbohydrate source rather than direct muscle-building effects.
