Salmon oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which have been studied for their effects on muscle health. Scientific research indicates that omega-3 supplementation can benefit the muscular system, particularly in the context of muscle protein synthesis and the reduction of inflammation. Several studies have demonstrated that omega-3 fatty acids may help enhance muscle anabolic response to amino acids and insulin in older adults, potentially helping to counteract age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia). For example, a 2011 study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that omega-3 supplementation increased the rate of muscle protein synthesis in healthy older adults. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce exercise-induced muscle soreness and promote recovery after intense physical activity.

However, while the evidence is promising, it is not yet definitive. Most studies have focused on specific populations (such as older adults or athletes), and the effects may not be as pronounced in the general population. The evidence base is growing, but more large-scale, long-term studies are needed to fully confirm the extent of the benefits of salmon oil for muscle health. As such, the use of salmon oil to support the muscular system is scientifically supported, but the evidence is moderate rather than robust.
