Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 3

Eggs are considered a beneficial food for nail health, with their use supported by scientific evidence rather than merely tradition. Eggs are an excellent source of high-quality protein and contain key nutrients such as biotin (vitamin B7), iron, zinc, and vitamin D, all of which are important for the maintenance and growth of healthy nails. Biotin, in particular, has been studied for its role in strengthening brittle nails; several small studies have shown that biotin supplementation can increase nail thickness and reduce splitting and breakage. Eggs are among the richest natural dietary sources of biotin. Additionally, the protein content in eggs provides the amino acids necessary for the synthesis of keratin, the main structural protein in nails.

While there is limited direct research on egg consumption and nail health specifically, the presence of these key nutrients and their established roles in nail structure provide a reasonable scientific basis for recommending eggs as a supportive food for the nail body system. However, most evidence is extrapolated from studies on biotin and protein intake generally, rather than eggs in isolation. Therefore, while the scientific rationale is strong, the direct evidence is moderate, resulting in a rating of 3 out of 5.
